Charles Kinsey, 47, a behavior therapist from South Florida was shot in the leg three times by the police in North Miami while laying on the ground with his arms up and trying to help his patient with autism who had run away from a group home.
It all started when someone called 911 and said there was a man walking around with a gun. However it was Kinsey’s patient who was sitting on the ground cross-legged, playing with a toy truck.
Charles got shot by police despite telling them he was only trying to help his patient.
The police shot him, handcuffed him and left him on ground bleeding.
North Miami police have not released much information at
all. They haven’t released the officer’s name, they haven’t given us an update
on the investigation. However, they did say that the state attorney is now a part of
this investigation.
I had a long talk with a very close friend of my family and she and I were sharing stories about each others childhoods and how we have grown from each shitty thing that was tossed our way. She actually got me to cry talking about my parents (We are completely no longer speaking to each other so that took a little effort on her behalf) as the conversation was coming to a close she took me aside and told me something I don’t think i’ll ever forget… I’m going to share that with you guys.
“I’ve known you since you were 10 years old… I always knew you were different, and knowing your parents and how they’re are incapable of understanding someone like you, I always feared you’d let this place suck all of the life and creativity out of you. I cant just sit here and witness someone so beautiful wither away because of the rejection and cruelty from your “parents”. Once this whole mess with them is cleared up you need to pack your belongings get some money together, go stay with a friend in New York, get a job and live the life you were put on this earth to live.”
Moving to New York has always been a dream of mine but hearing someone that actually watched me grow up giving all of my dreams validation was a VERY powerful moment for me
